Japanese Maple

    Will this turn to the burgundy color? I didn't know if their were varieties of the maples that stayed green like this?

    There are various types of Acer palmatum and you have to select the right one before you buy it. They don't all change colours.
    Some stay green and there isn't any-thing that will change them.

    Sure there is, the OP can spray paint it.

    Take a really close look at it right now.

    One bit of info I left out was that this back yard was completely full of trees and bushes. I think it used to be some kind of English garden. Just wanted to add that in case the shade had anything to do with it.

    I would go to a retail nursery and take a look at the tree tags.

    take a sample to your local nursery
    there are several that stay green

    Or, one could look very, very, very closely at its current leaf color and get his answer.
