gentleman I'm sure someone on here has done an engine swap on a CJ. mine is in need and I'm debating upgrading from the 4 cy I have now to the 6. Anyone know what's involved? I'm not sure if it'd be worth it to me if I have to changed to many parts out I've always been pretty happy with the 4, it sure isn't fast but I'm not drag racing it.

I have owned and rebuilt 98 small jeeps ,and have done many swaps .What year and type is your cj as they made them with 4 cylinders for 40 years ?auto or manual ?
Anyways ,the easiest way to accomplish what you want is to pick up a complete 6 cylinder jeep of the same general vintage and swap what you need.Assuming its a newer cj ,the next easiest way is to swap in a 4 litre from a 91-up yj ,or cherokee ,but you will need the wiring harness and all the bits and pieces .The front driveshaft is on the wrong side from the newer trucks ,but can be overcome easily .
The last way would involve a gm 4.3 swap .You would either swap the engine, tranny and transfercase as a unit ,or you can buy an adapter from somebody like advance adapters who specialise in engine swaps .
Theres probably hundreds of combos that can be made to work ,some easy ,some not so much ,and joining a jeep site or two [jeepkings ,or pirate4x4 ] will get you many nights of reading an unbeleivable amount of info .
    Good Luck !

Sorry ,I just re-read your posts title ,did you honestly say jeep scrambler ?as in cj8 ? if so check around before cutting up a scrambler ,they have a huge premium as they are very rare and desirable ,the last one I had sold for $24000.00 and if it was a cj7 in the same condition might of fetched$10000.00 .I left the jeep word 3 years ago so prices are probably not quite the same ,but check things out very well before doing anything .

I'm thinking AMC 401! There's no replacement for displacement.

1981 jeep scrambler 4cyl, manual. my grandfather bought it back in the day, it's the same age as me. I won't be selling it I just want to get it to the point I can do more than drive it around the farm.

    I am drooling !
For something that nice ,find yourself a cj7 6 cylinder rotted out and swap the drivetrain .Keep everything you remove from yours ,you might want to restore it in the future ,or your kids might and the original parts would make that easier .This would be a very easy project ,jeeps of that vintage are very basic .
Not sure if you know ,but collins brothers jeeps have pretty much the best assortment of cj8 parts around ,new or used ,and quadratec is like a jeep wallmart ,order the catalogues and start having fun .Also ,your cj is really just a cj7 with a little more wheelbase and cargo space ,other than the rear driveshaft length ,the tops, and the extra frame and body length ,pretty much everything from a cj7 will be a direct bolt on .Most suppliers dont have listings for the cj8 ,so order cj7 stuff for it and you will be fine .

we opted to drop in a 350 chevy that we had in another truck that was falling apart... of course the engine was rebuilt recently and had a great transmission as well. also ordered an Air Conditioning kit :)

Dropped a 350 with Howell fuel injection in mine. Also upgraded to TH350 trans. 8 years ago. Not a single problem since. Awesome.
