I need to repower an old John Deere GT275. I am aware that the FC 540V engine that it came with is no longer in circulation. I would like to know if the Briggs & Stratton 26 hp Extended Life Series engine would fit. They have the same diameter crankshaft and everything. If anyone has any tips or suggestions feel free to speak up. Thanks.

If the cranks are the same size and you have the room under hood and any side panels it will bolt right on the frame. But, Will require some wire harness changes and possibly exhaust and control cables.

And, you're going backwards in engine quality.

I can understand, though, if you are trying to save money.
