I am looking into buying a ztr for my home use. I have looked at the John Deere 737 (KAW) and the Dixie Choppers LT 2700 (Generac). As well as the Exmark. I like all of these machines, but am hearing both good and bad. Problem is, I am hearing all the good and bad from the dealers. Can any one help me with some suggestions, tips, or advice on which would be the best mower for the money? Once I buy, I don't want to have to buy again for a long time. I have an 1-3/4 acre of thick Bermuda.

    Thanks for any help,
    EAT

    Perhaps a bit I can.

    I bought a JD 757 w/60"
I wanted service where ever I lived.
I sold my 16 year old JD 265 for $1400. I call that holding value.

I had (traded up) a generac generator w/generac engine. Ok, but not as solid feeling. Seemed a shorter stroked, busier motor, and it was just harder to find service, not to mention parts on hand

I do find the JD's a bit short on power for their deck and frame size. Not bad, but a little short. But then I mulch.

Cleaning the deck is a hassle.

I kinda wish it was joystick operated.

It's freaking heavy, and certainly far more rugged then I will ever need.
Tractor strong, but it will never do more then cut grass. Wish it was a bit less rugged (heavy) as it's really wide tires can do damage on a "Z" turn. Care is needed.

I wish it started the blades like the kubota. I wince everytime the PTO nearly stops the motor..

Otherwise it's perfect. The above are simple observations of on otherwise good machine.

BTW, I think the dixie's are ugle.

I tried the dixie before buying my deere 737 and I did not like the chopper mainly because of poor dealer support. In my area there has been several dealers that sold dixie and did not stay in biz very long and the one I tried it at is now out of biz. Also are not real popular here. My 737 does a fine job and I also run the mulching kit. Good luck in whatever you decide, there are a lot of folks on here who run/like dixie but it all comes down to dealer support.

Dixie Chopper is hands down a better machine then a John Deere IMO. Maybe not as pretty however but one mean machine when it comes to mowing grass.

Deere gets my vote. Especially with their new stamped instead of fabricated 7 iron deck.

    GO with Deere.

    Resale value and service.

No need to even think about cleaning the decks on the 7-iron II decks.

I would look at the 757 over the 737 because of the extra horsepower.

If you are only going to mow that much grass, I would save money and go with the 717. Smaller motor and deck, but good power.

    Topside, but not the bottom.

i have a friend who has a jd 717 with the old style 7 iron deck and i have used it many times. long story short, it's awesome. i can only imagine the new 7 iron II decks. tried a dixie once, and didn't like the overly agressive tires but the cut was pretty good. but it is REALLY ugly. if you're only cutting 1.75 acres, i would also lean tword the jd 717. i have mulched with it and it takes a surprising amount to bog it down even with a 19 hp kaw engine.
