Kaw 19 starter noise

Not sure that anyone would remember, but awhile back I posted about an alarmingly loud starter on my kaw 19. It sounded like grinding teeth/missing, etc. I went ahead and replaced the starter, inspected the old one, and the flywheel. There were no apparent problems. The new starter makes the same damn noise! My mechanic came by, took a look, shrugged his shoulders! Anyone else have a JD 717A with a 19hp kaw? Is this normal?

No idea, hour meter quit working at 200. I know it is about 4 yrs old though.

Might try a thin shim under the starter mounting lugs.~john

You may want to check the top crank bearing which is part of the block, I have seen these wear and let the flywheel move away from the starter drive.
When this bearing surface wears enough the top seal will start leaking.

Remove the top shroud then grab the flywheel on each side and try rocking side to side.
