Looking at getting a new 60'' z. Which engine would you get or is better? 25 hp Kaw or 27 hp Kohler. The dealer said that the kaw actually makes the same power and torque as the Kohler engine. Is this true? Does anyone have any true hp and torque figures?
    Thanks for the help, Joel:dizzy:

I've had both. If given a choice I'd definately choose the Kawi over the Kohler.

I've only used kaw as well but I'm willing to try others. When I tried the Kohler it was a quieter than the Kaw. That's my only thoughts of riding the mower all day with a quiet engine.Joel

    Kawasaki Trouble, Kohler Reliable
    I have the following Kawasakis:

6.75HP, 14HP, (2) 17HP's, and 25HP all vert-shaft and bought new within last couple years.

Have logged total of about 2100 hours on all of these combined.

PROBLEMS: 4 carburetors, 1 electric starter, 1 recoil starter, 1 engine ignition coil, 1 dropped valve.

    I have the following Kohlers:

    6.0HP, 13HP, (2) 25HP's. 6.0 is Horiz shaft, others Vert.

Have logged total about 3500 hours on all of these combined.

PROBLEMS: NONE. Not even a hiccupp out of one of these.

The Kawasaki's run deceptively smooth, and they have a lot of power so it is easy to beleive they are better. But it has been my Kohlers that have been MUCH MUCH cheaper to operate based on my repair history.

I can't stand my kawasaki's, they are troublesome and they require alot more service then my kohlers.

I have had great luck with all of my Kohler motors. I personally believe that maintenance is the key to reliability.
