I have a Kaw. 12.5 on my exmark and it takes me 20 pulls or
so with starting fluid to get it started. Once started it runs fine.
Any ideas what the problem my be.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I would check to see if you have good compression, also check your spark and your spark plug.

Yeah Check your spark plug, may just be all gummed up.. Or may have a weak spark...

    Thanks for the replys
I put a new spark plug in and had lotes of spark.
The compression read around 45, but the gauge is old, so not
sure how accurate it is. I have the same engine on another mower and it reads around 55.

    Thanks
    Jason

Hey , just rereading this thread... Check the carb.. Proably needs some cleaning and adjusting... it's probably just not getting enough fuel in there... maybe metering is off or valvel is worn or gummed up... tear it down and clean it out really good, should beable to get a gasket set from your local dealer.. If all else checks out this is the next logical thing to look at...at least I would think so..

you might want to check your choke linkage and make sure your choke is closing all the way. just a thought.

I have the same problem. I have the FB460? 12.5HP Kawasaki on my Toro walk-behind.

It used to start on 2 pulls. Now it is more like 20 w/ starting fluid.

Two different dealers have guessed that it probably needs a valve job. I will have it looked at over the winter.

45 lbs seems weak, i would check your valve clearance.

Thats what it was the valves, had them redone and it starts
better then when I bought it. 1- 2pulls.
