I am considering buying a new Ferris IS 4000 with the 27horse liquid cooled Kawasaki. What have your experiences with this engine been? Good or bad? Thanks.

I dont have a 27, but I LOVE my 20HP Kaw L/C!!!!! VERY reliable, and oil changes less often with engine oil filters, runs very smoothly. LOVE it!!:D

But , when you work it hard, it'll reward you with far less gas in your tanks then you could ever imagine!

Thanks in part to a hearty 2 bbl carb.

Mine tachs out free load at 3850 rpm.

With blades engaged sitting still its 3810 rpm.

And mowing normal grass on normally flat yards, I'm in the 3760 range.

Real deep grass and weed mix (10"+) and it'll drop to 3600. Saw 3570 a few times going up hills in that thick stuff.

Best of all, it'll do this ALL DAY LONG in tripple digit heat and not skip a beat!

The engine will surely outlast the mower.

We have one on our 61" Scag TT. The engine has never been a problem.

Hasn't someone fuel injected a liquid cooled engine? That would save some fuel and keep the engine cool.

Kawi makes a 29HP DFI (digital fuel injected). Basically same motor as 27 Liquid cooled. Supposedly uses 25% less fuel. Scag offers them on there ZTR's.
