    First post for me. My brother is having trouble with his Exmark walk behind, with a Kawasaki FC420v engine. When trying to start it backfires through the carb and the muffler. I pulled the plug and grounded it and the spark looks nice and blue. We drained the gas and put fresh in. I have pulled the flywheel and the key is good, also the magnet seems strong. I also removed the head and the valves and cylinder wall looks good. I am stuck thinking it may have a faulty coil? Has anyone had a similar problem.

    Thanks, Jonathan

    Back firing through the carb. and muffler is a sign of possibly valves too tight/out of adjustment.

    Check the valves;

    Thanks Restrorob, that seemed to fix it. Great help!
