kawasaki fh580v won't shut off correctly...

    I turn the key to the off position but it will smoke and backfire and put. I need to pull the choke at the same time to shut it down. Any help would be appreciated.

    Sounds like the kill wire isn't grounding to stop the ignition spark, Therefore it's having to shut down with the fuel cut-off solenoid stopping fuel flow through the main jet.

    Should be a white wire from the ignition switch "M" post to the engine harness, Check it for any breaks and proper gounding when the key switch is turned off.....
