My 17HP kawasaki died and I'm looking to put an 18HP Kaw in it. Does anybody know if they are interchangeable and if not, what are the differences? It's on a 48" metro hydro.

    Thanks

PS. I've alread pm'd Restrorob, he is just not online right now.

I would imagine they would be the same. Are you dead fixed on a 18hp? Might as well go for the 19 IMO. As long as the shafts are the same dimensions, mounting holes, etc should be identical.

I don't think Kawaaski makes an 18 HP engine. I could be wrong though.

So rob, do both the 17 and 19 have the same mounting positions/bolt holes?

Yes, The foot print is the same. I have noticed since you came aboard that you have learned quite a bit. If you keep it up you just mite bump me out of my slot.

Hah, doubt it. That is good to know b/c the 17hp on my gravely is really pissin me off. After 15 minutes of loaded running, it will lose all power, touch the hydros and it will stall, basically it becomes gutless. Going to the dealer either this week or next week. If they find nothing then I am just gonna replace it with a 19. Tired of this bs...:hammerhead:

it could be an "in house" design thing. I've seen people make stuff themselves that makes factory look like garbage.
