    Hello all,

I just wanted to make anybody aware that hasn't had this issue before to annually or biannually remove the shroud off the kawi 17hp to remove grass and debris from the fins to avoid overheating. I lost a motor after 1200hrs this way. I am faithful about service. I had no idea debris has built up on the heads causing to overheat. somone had suggested I put a filter over the starter housing to prevent grass and dirt from building up. Again, I'm sure some of you are aware I wasn't. If I save a couple engines in this post it was worth it to me. Wishing everyone a safe summer.

Depending on your conditions, this may need to be done FAR more frequently!
It's the old "out of sight, out of mind" syndrome.
These engines need air flow to cool!

    I've been guilty myself!

Here is just alittle tip for anyone who dosen't know, getting the shrould off can really be a PITA, best example would be the Kaw FC 420, it has a bolt inbetween the muffler and the engine. Any time I"ve encounter one like this, I cut a slot in the shroud with my die grinder, so the next time I take the shroud off, I don't have to remove a hiden/hard to reach bolt, just loosen it.
The slot should not be any wider then the bolt hole:nono:
