i have a 23hp kawi engine on a exmark ztr. once the engine heats up it has a problem starting. its starts up fine in the morning. i put the throttle and choke up and the engine just wines and doesnt kick in. i turn the fuel off between propertys, thought that might fix it. it sounds like a car that wont turn over and just makes that waaaa, waaa sound (haha) dont know how else to explain it.

Only two things I can think of:

    1. Once the engine is hot no choke should be required.
    > Either way try various combinations of choke / no choke and No throttle / Wot until you hit the sweet spot.

    2. Is the starter not 'catching?' If so it could be that or the solenoid or something.
The way to tell is if just freewheels, as in it's not even turning the engine over.
It's a different sound from cranking, when a starter fails to catch it sounds a little like an electric drill being gunned, it's not that 'chew chew' sound.

I would try playing with various choke / throttle positions first.
