We have a Kawasaki FD750D-AS04 on our 2003 Scag TT date of engine mfg. 0303. I noticed today that the unit was operating very sluggish when starting and or the starter would only chatter. Took the battery out and had it checked and it showed defective, OK unit is 3 years old. The ammeter was showing charging after first starting with old battery. Replaced battery and now with the mower operating and the electric clutch operating the ammeter is showing -5 discharging, with electric clutch off it goes back to 0 on the ammeter. I don't think that is in the clutch drawing to much amperage, so I need help as to the proper diagnostics to determine which component is bad. Could it be a defective voltage regulator or another problem ? Good thing it was extremely dry here for the past 10 days, we have very little growth and it will give time to get corrected. Is there a value for the electric clutch to be checked with an amprobe ? There has to be test ports to troubleshoot this problem. Thanks.:usflag:

I use an amp clamp style tester for electric clutches and a good rule of thumb is if it is pulling more then 4 amps its probably no good. I also verified this a couple of months ago with a rep. from Ogura Clutch

The pages below will cover the charging system testing....

Is your clutch triangle in shape with three nuts on each point ? If so it may just need a adjustment.

OK Thanks Guys. The clutch is triangular and usually we try to keep it adjusted to .12-14 but I will recheck it.:usflag:
