I have a Toro 36 WB with the Kohler 13 engine, which I use for my own lawn.

It's a 2000 model, with less than 75 hours on it. It has started on the first or second pull since I've owned it, except for last week, when it wouldn't start at all.

It will occasionally sputter, but then die.

    Gas is fresh.

    Air cleaner is clean.

    I changed the sparkplug.

All with the same results. I haven't tried starting fluid.

Any ideas before I have the dealer pick it up for $70 and wait for 2 weeks to get it fixed?

    Thanks for your help.

If it does this when cold, check to make sure that the choke is fully closed when you attempt to start it.

After talking to a trusted dealer about my situation, he suggested it may be related to the safety switch on the handlebar.

    He was right.

After days of trying to start the mower to no avail, just holding the bail on the handlebar closed with one hand and pulling the rope with the other got it started on the first try!

The bad news? That even with the blades disengaged, the bail on the handlebar must be held. I suppose this means the real problem is with the sensor that determines whether the blades are engaged or not. Where the heck is it? :dizzy:
