Hello, My dingo 420 with a kolhler 20 hp --ch20s-- oil started blowing oil out of exhaust. Both spark plugs were fouled and the oil level seemed high. It barely runs and blows white smoke out exhaust. The compression in each cylinder is 180 lbs. I changed plugs and air cleaner ,the engine was replaced a couple of years ago where do I go from hear? thanks, coder

First get the excess oil out. Restart engine and after twenty to thirty minutes if smoke doesn't clear out. Then take the inspection plate off where oil pump purges oil,(by the carburetor, hose coming off of it between the two cylinders) and check for a broken reed valve. Excess oil will cause this though. So be sure to drain excess oil!!!!!!!Do not overfill any engine with oil!!! It can be almost as bad as running one low!!

Smell the oil, If it smells like fuel the float needle valve in the carb has stuck open or has trash under it. Could also be a pin hole in the fuel pump diaphragm.

The higher than normal oil level/wet plugs/excessive smoke is the tip-off ......

    Good Luck

I ran the motor for an hour it got smoother but had to keep the choke at 1/2 . There is still lots of smoke when throtled up or down the reed valve is in one peice. I can't really smell gas in the oil but oil level might have gone gack up again

Ok you definately need to have your Carburetor rebuilt. This sounds like the cause of everything. Especially if you didn't overfill the engine with oil yourself. Like Restro said if the needle in the carb doesn't seat off fuel will back up in oil. And running it half choke tells me you need to have the carb rebuilt, trash is blocking fuel passages. Upon doing so you will find trash floating around being the source of the whole problem more than likely. Be sure to replace fuel filters, air filters, and any old or cracked fuel line when doing the carb rebuild. If you have never done this before take it to your local dealer.

Are you talking about the valve cover mounted mechanical pump? I have the same problem with my 22 Kohler. It is getting excess fuel in the oil and is overfilling the crankcase, which is pushing the excess thru the carb, smokes like hell after about 5 min running with a fresh oil change. I've rebuilt the carb, new gaskets, needle, etc. Is there a diaphram in this style mech. fuel pump? Thanks

Yes there sure is, And they have been known to leak/pump fuel right into the crankcase.

My nieghbors just started doing the same thing. Blowing oil out the exhaust. This motor only has 80 hours on it. Not over filled and no gas smell in oil. Did you find anything else?
