I just missed an EBAY auction for a brand new Kohler 27 carb, was going to repower a Kohler 25 Gravely. (vertical shaft).

The motor for sale was not set up for a commercial mower, but a rider like a top-of-the line Crapsman. The air filter would have to be swapped, also, the oil cooler transferred, and the exhaust muffler transferred.

Everything else seems to be the same.

    Same bore.

    Same stroke.

    Same compression.

    Same weight, etc.

What is the difference between the two? Power curves show the 27 to have peak torque at 2800 rpm vs 2200 rpm for the CV25.

Is the cam different or are the heads also different?

It is my understanding that the carb and cam are different. Otherwise it's the same engine.

Big time power gain. Was worth the trouble. (I had to cut the crank on the 27 from 4.25" down to 3.375" from the bottom of the block).

Also had to change the wiring (easy).

Kept my muffler, starter, and air filter setup.

BTW if anyone wants a good used 25 HP (located in Virginia) I will sell it for $350/obo. It has about 850 hours, Vertical Shaft.
