I got my tractor back today from the dealer, The motor was using about 1/2 a quart an hour. They did a leakdown test and it was at 25%. Bad Rings! You could not see it buring oil but you could smell it on your clothes afterword. It had only 115 hours on it. I am not happy, Kohler refused to pay for amy of it.
When I was picking mine up someone was bropping off a Cub Cadet with a 25hp Kohler with the same problem, he as 50 hours on it.

Your head gasket is blown. Do some research.

I have never seen a bad piston ring(s) on a Kohler engine, unless the engine has ingested dirt and they are worn.

How old is this unit? Kohler should cover a head gasket unless the unit is overheated.

    I second the head gasket.
