Anyone seen one of these new machines out there at a dealer? I want to buy one, but my dealer said he can't get any info on availability, (which I don't understand). He's got a 30hp 66" XR-7 in stock that he's pushing on me, but I would prefer the 72." I don't know if he just wants to sell off his existing inventory, or if the 72" XR-7 is really not available....

No one has seen one at a dealer, they are not yet in production.
54" and 72" XR-7 model's will not be available until later in the spring.

That 30hp Kohler is quite an engine. Though the Hustler spec sheet lists the incorrect torque rating. This is finally a gas engine capable of properly powering a 72" deck.

Late Spring is fine. That's the info I was looking for. Can't wait to get this machine !!

PJ what would you say that could be noticed in the difference of the 28 efi and the 30 hp kohler on the same size deck in the exact same mowing conditions. I think the readers would like to have a feel for what the pros and cons are with these engines.

I can not give a personal experience, as I have not mowed with the 30hp Kohler.
I do have plenty of experience with the 28hp EFI, and I can tell you the torque on demand and the throttle response in heavy conditions make the EFI a winner, not to mention fuel savings.

I noticed Kohler's website lists the 28 EFI with more torque than the 30, 47.1 lb/ft. vs. 44.8 lb/ft., respectively.

EDIT...my torque numbers were backwards. It should read 44.8 lb/ft. for the 28 EFI and 47.1 lb/ft. for the 30.

    jtkplc,

I'm on Kohlers website right now.

I think you got your numbers mixed up.

    28hp EFI = 44.8lb/ft (725cc)

    30hp carb = 47.1lb/ft (747cc)

    That is a BIG difference.

The 31hp Big Block Vanguard has almost the same torque at 47.3lb/ft (895cc) but needs 148cc more displacement to do it.
