kohler clacking noise

    Started clacking on start up a few days ago,sounds like no oil to lifters but then in a minute or so it quits and runs like a new mower,oil level was down alittle nothing unusal iam changing oil and filter tommorow anybody got any idea whats happening its a 14 hp on a 2301 dixon ztr?

    The first think to do is to remove the clackers!

    Let us know how it sounds with the new oil and filter.
    Please post the model number of the engine.

    Just a reminder to use nothing but 10W30 oil in a Command engine.

    Changed oil and filter using kohler 10-30 oil and filter,with a new batterie installed yesterday it would only grunt and not start even with batterie boost, pushed it up on trailor and hauled to dealer where it started? acts like its trying to start against compression,guy there said something about compression releave not releasing????????????? 2-3 weeks to get it back:confused:

    ACR may be broken on the camshaft, which may have been causing the clacking noise you heard!

    Dealer called today the acr on the cam is shot, new cam $97 bucks plus labor ect around $260 to fix it, that doesnt bother me as much as the mower only has 179 hours on it?
