Hello mowing pro's. I have a question on a problem I am having with a 17.5hp Kohler engine.

It is on a 2003 John Deere L110 Lawn Tractor.

The problem is when I try to start it, it will turn over but will not run and will back fire while turning over.

I have taken out the spark plug, cleaned it and set the gap according to the book. I have cleaned the air filter. Blew out the fuel filter and nothing is working.

Was wondering if anyone might have an idea as to what the problem is and how to fix it before I take it to John Deere and get charged out the wazoo for fixing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, :D

It needs a tune up. If it is a carb model, there are some screws on the carb you can adjust- tighten the non-idle down a 1/2 turn at a time till it starts. Failing this, find a good small engine shop.

Is it popping back through the card, or out the muffler? If its the carb and if the engine has overhead valves pull the cover off the valves and make sure nothings wrong with the pushrod...., if its the muffler check the key in the flywheel.
