I was looking at a diesel Kubota 326. It has about 1,700 hours on it. How many hours does a Kubota diesel usually last if properly taken card of?

1700 is just getting broken in if its been taken care of. Gas engines can go WAY past 1700 hours. I would imagine the diesel would go twice as far as a gas. I did have a buddy that had an old grass hopper. He replaced the whole mower around the diesel engine and eventually got tired of fixing the mower and sold it. It had a ton of hours on it and was about 15 years old. It was used commercially but the engine still was running strong when he sold. I would imagine the engine would outlast most components on the mower... I don't know thought I don't have one.

As with any machine there are exceptions from one extreme to the other, but I'd estimate that, with good maintenance, the engine should go anywhere between 5000 to 7000 hrs (many have gone much longer). But, as I said, I think that would be a reasonable average. Other parts can be replaced as needed since, once again on average, they'll go way before the engine does.

  8. I've always said the engines will last forever , while everything else on it will be shot.

You can look on ebay, craigslist, and online trader to compare prices. A whole lot depends on the condition of the mower.

Don't worry about the engine, worry about everything around it and what it will cost to fix those parts when they break. I my years in this business I have only seen one Kubota engine blown and that was do to hard use, over heating, and poor maintenance.
