Just random photos - some new some old more to come as I will use this to post random photos for properties we care for, installations, etc etc. The usual stuff.
First up - Random Photos of the Trailer. Everything has it's place on my trailer. Nothing is on the floor besides the Mower tires!
During the beginning of the growing season, zoysia should be scalped, leveled with sand if necessary, then kept at the correct height of cut. The patchy dead areas are what happens to zoysia not kept short enough. The diseases and insect pests have a field day. Not to mention, whatever fertilizers or chemicals are applied will probably not get through all that thick thatch. I am dealing with a zoysia lawn in similar condition right now. Previous HOC was 3+. Now it is less than an inch. If the zoysia cannot be maintained with a reel mower, consideration should be given to replacing it with St Augustine.
Zoysia being maintained now with a reel, but the problem is the height of cut before. It was in excess of 4 inches would be my guess. On the first cuts i did when taking the account over you could see where the turf was so long it was just being pushed over by the zero turn the previous lco was using.
If we give up on this we will just go with Empire Zoysia instead of what I am thinking this is which is jamur zoysia ...but nobody knows for sure as to what was installed or where it came from.
They did some patching with empire in the lawn and that is what is doing well. There are some small areas of bermuda too. So if nothing else I have a feeling since it is being reeled, the bermuda will take over.
Ornamec seems to do well with getting Bermuda out of Zoysia the blades lighten and curl a little but it recovers fully. I'm really learning a lot of neat tricks from the CPO I'm studying under. Posted via Mobile Device

Intersting...I will pass that along to the CPO taking care of this lawn. He is using a natural fert on this lawn which has did wonders on some other lawns of SA. This lawn the zoysia is such a fine blade I think moisture is what is halting its continued process even further but just in case he is going to hit is with some traditional fert and potash aka 21-0-0 and 0-0-22. We will see. I will try to remember to take pictures this week as it is better than the old pictures I put here but still not "there" by any means yet.
Here are some more recent photos of the Zoysia renovation pictured in the last few weeks. We have made good progress in my opinon. What are your guys thoughts? If it had been St. Augustine we could of gotten a lot more spread and fill in, but it has not been my experience that zoysia is as aggressive. This cultivar seems to take its time for sure.

You would be surprised how fast you can get a fill in. We verticut and sanded a diamond zoysia lawn and after 2 weeks it was practically filled in. If there is a lot of thatch(which im sure there is) you need to remove and topdress. It has to look bad before it can look good.

That is why the lawn professionals in Hawaii do not hold back on cutting zoysia down and dethatching it. I might be asked to do just that to about 1/2 acre of Emerald Zoysia. I found yet one more way for a zoysia or bermuda lawn to get too thick and tthatched over. It happens when there is too much clearance between the reel and bedknife so the mower only chews off the tips of the leaves rather than shearing it down to the correct height. Illiterate yard men that go through the motions of mowing without actually getting the job done.

So here is the newest project I picked up today. We have essentially a open budget, just make it right. Irrigation audit starts Monday. We have Control over irrigation, fert and squirt of lawn and shrubs(monthly applications) , we have permission to fix whatever and charge it to card or to invoice as we feel necessary.
We will be reel cutting front section behind gates and back entertaining section by pool...everything else we will use Hustlers on. If homeowner sees what he wants out of the reel cut, he has agreed to purchase us a 48 inch gang reel so that we may use on his property. Gang Reel will covey with us, we take it with us as owner does not want stored at the property.
It will be a project for sure. Once irrigation is fixed...we will start making progress. I will try to remember to post updates as I can but as it is already August, I do not expect great results any time soon although the irrigation that there currently is a failure , so anything is possible.

Had a neighbor who i mowed his yard for free for two weeks while he was sick give me a deal on his truck that he was the only owner of. Garage kept, mint condition with 73k miles on it. Cost me all of 3k . Karma works wonder sometimes.
I thought it was a great deal. The gentleman that owned it took such good care of it that I almost feel bad adding it to the work line up. He kept it in the garage its whole life here in FL and the outside is honestly pretty flawless especially considering the age.
The only thing I wish was different it it does not have power windows (first world problems) and the bench seat does not recline like my other 150 and I am tall ...so I feel stiff when I change trucks.
Landscape Poet, first off, i am very impressed with your work! I am from Ky so much of your work is quite new to me because of different climate, etc. I am interested in your trailer that you had earlier in your thread that i read about: if i'm not mistaken, it was a 5x12. I am looking to replace my old 6x12 with another newer, nicer 6x12 and am wondering whats going to be the strongest set-up i can buy. (i will run 2 mowers on mowing days, and when landscaping, ill haul mulch, dirt, gravel, etc.) Tell me if this sounds good to you: I'm thinking a new 6'4"X12' trailer with a 2 5/16 coupler with a 5,000lb axle. is this pretty much what you had with a slight width difference? i love your setup and would like to basically match it lol. Thanks!

Thanks for the compliments. Yes my first trailer was in that 5x12 area. The trailer you mentioned is going to be a good all around trailer if you ask me. I think one solid single axle is the way for me as I do not have two sets of tires to wear through and where I live tolls can be a huge factor and single axle means less tolls.
For that reason a single heavier axle trailer works for me, but it does not mean it fits every ones needs. I will also advice you that if you are looking at doing lots of dirt and gravel work , it may be worth looking at a traditional two 3500lb axles for the extra little bit. Mine cost me a little more because it is customer , built low for no issues loading and unloading the mowers on either gate (side gate also custom). Shoot me a PM when you make your choice and post some photos, I will be interested in seeing what you end up with.

Thanks for the reply man! When I make my decision I'll make sure to let u know! I'm still trying to feel my way through the business, so I feel like I've got a good amount of options to choose from. Thanks again! Have a great prosperous 2014! Posted via Mobile Device
This is a 21 K celebration bermuda lawn that we took over late fall. It is new to being cut sub 4 inches. What is pictured here is from today, we are in the 1.75 inch ranch. It has a lot of spreading to do, but the potential is there. The cooler temps this spring have not helped move it along. I am hoping to see a huge transformation by June and even more so by September but we will see.
That's going to be gorgeous when it warms up a bit more. Spoon feed it and a good dose of iron rich minors it should come out like carpet. Posted via Mobile Device

I am hoping so. It is not really being spoon feed yet. It is on a monthly program and they are blasting it with granular now every month to get it what it needs prior to the active growth and worms. It has a lot of density to build but the color is great when I show up before cutting all the top growth off. It is still struggling to come out of it in the shady areas for sure and the rest is good all things considered I guess, just waiting for the ground temps to get there and hopefully everything falls in place.
