Hey guys, just a quick question..

How would you guys lawn aerate a football field that is approx 200,000sq feet in area... 145m x 100m approx...

All I have is the regular lawn aerator, Im sure that will work but it will take 8hrs?

As well, topdress it with soil amender and grass seeds...

What machine could you rent/use for this? I have a john deere skidsteer loader, but i know it will rip the entire football field up..

    :dizzy:

Maybe just rent a couple more aerators to get the job done quicker?

I would look into renting a compact tractor with a tow behind aerator and a commercial sized topdresser.

we aerate a few fields every spring......and 8 hours is not even close. @ walk behind aerators, takes about 2 hours.......we did one on monday......maybe 2 hours. We used a ryan, and a bluebird.....both are fast and it came out great. Why not just throw the seed in the spreader and spread it, then top dress it using the skid as a means to move the dirt a little easier. I dont see the problem here. Biggest complaint was the machines were hard to keep up with after they were half way done.........

200k sqft should need over 4M holes. A Toro 648 can do 750k holes/hr, a Deere Aercore 800 about 500k holes/hr, the Jacobsen/Ryan GA24 is about 330k holes/hr, as is the older Toro Greens Aerator. The tow-behind models are wider and can do more.

Wouldn't using a rotary aerator end up with either very few holes (they are typically 6-8 holes/sq ft/pass) or a rather sloppy look from multiuple passes? They also tend to be 150k or so holes/hr.

Really wish I could justify it, but I just aerate one weekend of the year in the fall... Anyone ever seen these used? I have yet to see it....
