I have a craftsman lawn mower with a 20hp SINGLE ohv. I was having trouble starting cause the flywheel was hard to turn. i re adjusted the valves 1/4" past TDC to .004. The spark plug is good and is showing spark. I cleaned the carb today at work and it is clean as a whistle and the float and needle and everything appear to be in good working condition. The spark plug is even showing gas on it. I have turned the motor so many times I thought I might have flooded it. I took the spark plug out and turned the motor over and blew out the excess gas. put the plug back in and tried to fire it up....it attemped to fire up for maybe 2 second and died back out. I am clueless. Any advice would help. I have no idea where to go next. I really need to get this mower started and working. Thanks . Peyton

new plug instead of just looking at the old one. and are you sure there is gas on the plug and not water droplets from having water in your gas?

Yes im pretty sure there isnt any water in the gas. I mowed with it 2 weeks ago and ran a whole tank of gas out. filled up with fresh gas a week ago. I just attempted to crank it again and it started up after a while of turning it over and died out about 10 seconds later. The lawn mower did alot of sputtering and really wasnt running at its full potential.

Do you think this could be a timing issue. I adjusted valves the other day and it crunk up but there was some back fireing and not it isnt even running like it was the other day.

Now a whole lot of gas blew out of the hole. I took the spark plug out and held it up and a few drops of gas came off of the spark plug and then when i turn it over not alot comes out. just kind of mists out. any suggestions. thanks

Can you post the engine model and type numbers off the top of the valve cover, Also the tractor model number from under the seat ?

Does the oil have a fuel smell ?

    craftsman lt3000 model number 917. 276824

briggs and stratton model 31p977 type 0635e1 code 060605za

The float got stuck one day after being used and fuel must of leaked into the oil. I changed the oil and cleaned the carb at work with carb cleaner and compressed air. So yes the fuel does still smell a little fuel. Once it gets back running again i plan on changing it one more time.
