Try not to suck up sticks. You can use a rake to feed it so you can pick them out. Try to keep your intake hose as straight as possible too.

Usually you can just pick up the hose and straighten it and give it a wiggle-jiggle and thump it on the ground to clear them.

Here is the secret for you.
    1. Try not to suck up sticks you know will clog your hose. But if you do....
    2. Carry a light weight ten foot 2, inch diameter pvc pipe with you. If you do jam up use the light weight pvc as a tool to clear the blockage without having to remove your intake tube.
    3. I stress to use light weight pvc so if you hit the spinning impellar it will simply shear the pvc and do no damage to machine nor operator.
    Good luck.

I need new hose this year or next. Do they make one that does not have the ridges on the inside.

I have never seen a hose that was compleatly smooth inside. The last one I bought I got from a hose distrubitor. They had different types. I bought one that was about 50% smooth inside but it cost more than the others. That was about 6 years ago so maybe the have new types now.

I had this issue until I replaced a chewed up beat up impeller. The new ones they put in would suck a cow up. Depending on what type of machine, 16hp should easily shred small sticks unless the impeller is messed. just a thought.
