leaking breather assembly on Redmax trimmer

    I have a 95 Redmax G26L trimmer that has a leaky breather assembly. Instead of the breather being in the fuel cap, it's connected to a tube with a filter-type end on it that rests below the carb. Well it's started leaking when I turn it to my standard edging position. I ordered a new one ($7) but till it gets in, I have to be mighty careful how I edge or I'll have gas dripping all along my edges in the grass. Any ideas on how to keep it from dripping until I get my new one? Can you just close this thing off?
