Having just received a couple of brand new LED MR16 Lamp modules here for testing I decided to get into the shop and do some comparisons.

Each of the lamps below were supplied 11.9Volts AC. They were all installed into the same Lumiere 203 fixture. They were all aimed at my shop wall from a distance of 18 Feet. Measurements (in foot candles) were taken at the center of the beam, at 3' out and at 8' out.

    GE BAB 20W Halogen MR16: Center 1.33 FC, 3' 1.17 FC, 8' 0.62 FC

    Colorstars 5W WW LED MR16 Lamp: Center 0.64 FC, 3' 0.40 FC, 8' 0.11 FC

    Luxxo 3.4W WW LED MR16 Lamp: Center 0.43 FC, 3' 0.42 FC, 8' 0.33 FC

    "INTEGRA" 6.2W WW LED MR16 Lamp: Center 1.11 FC. 3' 0.98 FC, 8' 0.27 FC

I was very impressed with the quality of light that is coming out of these new Luxxo LED Lamps... although it is not nearly as bright as a BAB, it is remarkably even across the beam pattern. This would make an excellent very wide flood for soft downlighting, and will also work very well in structure mounted applications where the object is relatively close to the lamp. I am going to contact the manufacturer and see if we cannot adjust the optics some to reduce the beam spread and thus focus more output into a smaller pattern.

In a couple of weeks I will do some more tests that postion the lamps closer to the meter.

    Regards.

    Can you measure the temperature?

I don't have an IR thermometer yet. Both the new Luxxo lamp and my "Integra" lamp operate at a temperature that is above warm but not exactly hot to the touch. I would guess between 40c and 50c. I will look into an IR thermometer soon.

All of the LED Lamps I am working with are "Warm White". I do not have a market for a lot of 4000K + lamps here. That being said the Luxxo and "INTEGRA" Lamps are burning at between 3000K and 3200K, just ever so slightly cooler then the GE MR16 Halogen. The colorstars unit I would peg as 3500K to 3700K... just a bit too cool for my liking.

No I don't have any colour temperature measuring instrument here. This is comparison only using the GE as a base line.

    Regards.

warm white is such a general term. 3200 is way to cold for me. I'll wait!
