An interesting document for those wanting to dive into latest wave of the LED movement was generated by the Dept. of Energy: Solid State Manufacturing Roadmap (http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/publications/pdfs/ssl/ssl_manufacturing-roadmap.pdf).

Not a lot here of interest to most of us but it is interesting to consider their target projections for cost.

Projected cost changes: LED lamp prices set to decrease in 2010 by 22%; 2012 by 53%; 2015 by 78%; 2020 by 94%!

This means (if the DOE is correct) that the LED lamps that cost $35 today, will cost $27 next year; $16 in three years; $8 in six years; and $2 in 11 years.

Note on pages 56 and 57 of the document a summary of standards that now apply to LED luminaires including UL standards.

I don't know, LED c-9 Christmas lights have been stuck at a buck a bulb for 3 years now. i'm not so sure there is much room for them to go down. perhaps mr-16 LED bulbs that are 35-45 bucks each at this time have room to come down.
