Letter to potential commercial accounts

    Do any of you send out letters to businesess telling them a litte about you and your company and asking them if they are interested in having a bid for the summmer? If so, what else do you say?

    A good commercial client will know about your company w/o you sending a letter and invite you to bid if they desire your services. Most commercial bids are by invite only. At least in my area. Build your reputation and they will come calling.

    Ohh...And have all your licenses and insurance in order.

    I'm not in the phone book and I am not that big of a company. I do just as good work as anyone else. I will not get any invites because of this. I don't think walking into a place of business and interupting them during their day is good business practice, so writing them a letter that they may read on their own time would be more practicle. if they want to respond, that is great. if not, well, maybe they will hold that letter and in a few years, after my business is established and they hear about me, then they can refer back to the letter.

    Well good luck to you. Hope it works out for you. Going commercial is a big and expensive step. You have to have all your ducks in a row. You are gonna need a chemical applicators license, business license, general liability insurance and workmans comp. insurance. Your bid letter should state that you have these in force. Once a bid is accepted the client will require a copy of each of these. Commercial work is very challenging but very rewarding. Biggest reason I like it is you get to deal with professionals instead of the little old lady on the corner.

    Yea, we send letters and post cards on a regular basis. Then we follow up with a visit and send more mail. It's an on going process but it does work it you stick with it.

    avery - I have everything that you mentioned above except a chemical applicators license. That is not needed because I do not advertise, nor do I perform that service. I refer all customers to one company and it seems to work out. All my current customers understand that for safety and legal reason I cannot provide them with that service.

    I sent them out around November because most commercial accounts have yearly contracts that will end late December early Jan. so I figure I would get some response which I did.
