Can anyone tell me what is the lightest 4-cycle engined line trimmer available in North America? (We call them 4-stroke strimmers in UK). TIA.

To tell you the truth, I can't even think of any 4 stroke units here except Shindaiwa's C4 and the Honda's. I'm sure there are others but they still aren't very popular over here yet.:)

I actually have a C4 with the split shaft for hedge trimming and a tiller. It sure does act like a four stroke in the fact it is slow, has gobs of torque, and sounds like one long poot.

Ironically, you still have to pre-mix the fuel and oil, though.

I would say the Honda's are probably the lightest...if not, they are very close to it.

Robin's four stroke is light and easy on gas!

I agree, they are light as most of the 2 cycles.

Yes 4 strokes are not popular here either, mainly due to the extra weight. They are supposed to be better for the environment - less carbon emissions - but my main reason for getting interested is that we had a couple of 2-strokes wrecked a while back because an employee forgot to add the oil to the mixture, I thought that maybe if we had 4 strokes it would eliminate the chance of that happening.:)

I can certainly understand your thinking there. Like I said in my second posting, though, my C4 (and some other models, I think) still require pre-mixing fuel.
