Has anyone ever used this stuff instead of salt and if so,once applied, how long will it last?

Depends - it can be applied before a snow event to prevent ice - or after to melt snow and ice.....it usually lasts 7 days without any snow, and you need to reapply it each time you plow/shovel snow.
