Looking for a Dodge 3500 cab & Chassis

    Im looking for a dodge 3500 cab & chassis. 94-02. Preferably 94-98. (a little less expensive.) with a cummins. It also needs to be 4x4. I do fence work and snow removal. I like the cummins a lot. Plus i found a guy that bought a dump bed for his 02' ford f-350 and it dosnt fit. He said he will sell it to me for $2500. its pretty new. It has been sand blasted and painted black. Ill try to get a pic. My question is any one have one for sale or no anyone? Plus what do you think about the price on the dump bed. He said it retails for about $8000. Does that sound right?

    Good luck on finding one Dodge never made very many cab and chassis trucks with a LWB in the 160" range or 84Ca the frame width will have tobe 34"s

    I was told that if you measured from the back of the cab to the middle of the axle it needs to be 60". And only cab and ch from the factory are that length.

    Is this 8 foot box you are looking at if so you need a swb truck like a P/U truck but with a 34" wide cab and chassis frame or you modify the box to fit a P/U truck frame.

    Hey Jordan, there was a dealer in Austin, TX that had a '98 red cab & chassis for sale. He was asking $13000 for it, and it had around 75000 miles on it. But it wasn't 4X4. That's one of the few Dodge cab & chassis' I can remember for sale - they're hard to find. Because of the reputation of the Cummins, people usually keep them forever, or work them to death. Don't know how much you want to spend, but you might be able to find a left over 2002 for not too much - there's still a few of them out there. If you could handle a 3/4 ton 4X4 that was loaded and immaculate, I could help you out on that one.

    Im not sure what the length of the bed is, but it is 34" between the frame. I found a guy with a 95 dodge 3/4 4x4 cummins, auto. he wants $5,000. has 160,000miles. What do you think? The loan value is $8500.

    The frame with of standard cab and chassis trucks is 34"s which is what any factory built body is built to a P/U truck has a wider frame. I would try find a 1 ton dually a 3/4 ton isn't gonna cut the mustard you can only carry 2-3000lbs a 1 ton should atleast carry 4000-5000lbs.

    If the dump box has a 34" wide subframe its not going to work on a P/U truck without major changing plus a P/U truck frame isn't as strong as a true cab and chassis.

    If the body is in good shape, and you like it, I'd run with it. That is dirt cheap for that truck. With those miles, the engine is just getting broken in. Things to check out are: does it start rough when cold and give off quite a bit of white smoke, if so it probably needs a fuel return line which is realtive cheap. If it's an automatic, check the fluid for any evidence of burning, and make sure it shifts ok. If it doesn't shift well, it might need a throttle position sensor, again a cheap fix. If it's a 5 speed, ask if the 5th gear nut has ever been replaced. That nut has a tendency to work loose if you lug the engine in 5th gear. Standard Transmission in Dallas, TX, has a fix for it. About $1500, or so, I think. And you might want to consider the "killer dowel pin" fix as a preventative measure. For more information on this go to Turbo Diesel Register and do a search for "killer dowel pin" or "KDP". Other than that, the engine is practically bullet proof. Legally, Gravel Rat is correct, you won't be able to haul that much weight with that truck. However, that truck will haul just about anything you feel up to putting behind it. Note - I'm not recommending that you overload the truck!
