John Deere use to have a resistor in the plastic cap on the end of the plug wire. When it went bad it would ruin plugs in short order.

I use to remove the wire end that goes to the spark plug and install a briggs and stratton wire end and the problem would go away.

The Kawasaki used on the 160 did this on a regular basis

I replace the cheezy spark plug boots and terminals with automotive ones.. make s for a much more secure fit.... and wont come off by itself... add a dab of dielectric grease and your good to go....
