Marketing strategy

    Any good marketing strategies out there? I had one good idea the last few weeks and it landed me 4 lighting jobs out of 6 leads. It is more for total landscaping companies. I know there are other great ideas out there. I understand most of you have your company names affiliated with your user name or signature. Pm me if you want to swap ideas. Also, i know where to get unique 600 watt transformer for cost, 12 gauge wire for cost, and unique valor lights for cost. That deal is only good till aug 31.

    I know this is in lighting, but you said total landscaping like installs etc/ I'm interested. I like learning about all different kinds of businesses anyway.

    I'm interested in what strategy you used to land 4 of 6 leads...

    Personally, I haven't spent a dime on advertising in over 5 years. I know if I did, I would get more leads and more work, but, with the way I am on every job, I don't want to spread myself thin.

    As it is, we're so busy and have been for a while. For me it's all about the personal contact and personal relationships that I build with my clients. I have many repeat clients and referrals from clients.

    Also, I have a few good landscaper friends and property management companies who all specialize in high end work and furnish me with a good amount of work.

    As for marketing ideas, I have many, but there never seems to be enough time to go from idea stage to execution. For example, back about 10 years ago, I had 5,000 postcards printed. They are 6x9 and are glossy black on the face. In reverse type, it says: " Is this YOUR view from the kitchen window at night?" along with my logo.

    You know where they are? On a shelf in my shop!.
    OH I had all good intention to compile / buy/ gather good mailing addresses to send them to... but who has the time!...And the way I am...sometimes I get calls and I never even get back to the people to go look at their job!....

    I have tried everything. Direct mail directly to certain mail routes. I have done full color inserts in the paper. I am at the top of google searches for landscape lighting. I got nothing off of direct mail and the inserts, and I did 25,000 inserts and several thousand full color postcards.

    My next idea is to do a lighting job for free on a commercial site on a busy intersection with a sign lit up with landscape lights.

    And possibly a billboard on a local busy part of town.

    I think the work is out there, but the way to reach people with a budget for this type of expenditure is changing.

    I will pm you my last idea that worked so well.

    We have not gotten a call for a single lighting job from any of our mailings. It is the only phase of work we do that mailings have not brought in work for. What has worked great for me is when they are putting in a street of spec homes, usually they build the first one at the entrance to the street and use it as a show room and real-estate office. We will do a temporary install for free on the display house, brochures and sample lights inside along with a LIT sign outside as well. I have three different contractors I do this for, last year it brought me 15 or so installs, this year were at 9.

    I try to use a multiple prong approach:

    1. home improvement magazine ads
    2. Wrapped trailers/trucks
    3. door hangers both sides of street from current job
    4. Caution a-frame sign in street while working: 'CAUTION: Geeks at play!'
    5. Home shows, etc.
    6. website, facebook, etc.

    I have not had good responses from direct mail.

    I find most leads from mailings are tire kickers. Want to question my price on a 14 fixture system...... no thanks ill let the franchise guys do all the advertising for me.

    I might take a shot at home improvement magazines. How do you set up for homeshows? Big screen tv of photos?
