Over here "legal" drivers are ticketed and have to either pay the high fines or go to court. The "illegals" get a ticket that they laugh at throw it away and change their name again. Where we buy our mulch 3 trucks can pull out at the same time 2 of them tarped everything in working order and legal drivers the third is some guy who cant see over the steering wheel with a trailer that's not tarped ,tires bulged out , one light that works and so on. Guess who they are going to pull over ? The 2 trucks who look to be ok, as they know that Pablo will not show up for court or pay the fines so its a waste of their time. Welcome to Maryland !

Its just a sign of where things are headed. 99% of these Latino fly by night companies don't pay taxes, dont have insurance, are not licensed and can pretty much do as they please. Answer this what happens if you don't pay taxes ? You either pay them or go to jail right ? If they don't pay them they can just disappear and pop back up with a new name, you have been around this long enough to know how it works. These are just a few more reasons that every year we get a little farther away from the mowing BS

But when your margins are lower on mowing than anything else why do it ? then you are dealing with 50 other people waiting for 50 more checks driving to 50 more jobs per week. No thanks. Been there and done that. Our area is just saturated with mow and go companies

Cash to expand. Everyone is charged by card. No waiting on people.

Margins are roof cleaning are terrific. But that is a lot more driving around. I get 500-700 for a simple cleaning. Takes an hour and $80 in materials. But have to travel a lot

You probably have 30 years on me age wise. I just want to get cash flow rolling to be able to expand. It's hard to expand not having good cash flow

Gross numbers mean nothing at all. I have a very good friend who mows over 300 residentials a week but is just digging himself into more of a hole with equipment, fuel, labor and insurance. Don't be the guy with the most trucks, crews and does the most jobs, be the guy who has the highest profit margin. Your better off doing 100k and putting 40 k in your pocket than you are doing 400k and making 50 k

I know I agree with you. I have one friend that runs one crew 2 people doing 100 a week. Another has 4 people doing 80 a week. But they do irrigation, hardscapes, etc.

So it all depends on how you structure your business.

Here it is, April 1 tomorrow, and it seems like everything is already off to a slow start! I got 2 customers last week and a few quotes here and there. Hows everyone else doing?
