Not sure what might be causing this. I just had it serviced and within 20 min of use I would see puffs of what looks like black smoke. I can't tell if it's coming from on top of the deck or below.

    Any Thoughts?

    Hmmmmm.....
I wouldnt start it again until you find out where that is coming from, it could be a belt rubbing.
What was it in for service for?

It was in for a basic service; oil change, filters, tune up, lube, and blade sharpen.

It does look like the belt has been rubbing in the section of the frame below. As it sits now there is between approx 1/4" & 1/2" space between the frame and belt. That seems to be the only place it seems it could rub. Could that little bit cause all that residue?

Out of curiosity, what would I expect if a spindle was to go bad?

    Thanks for your help.

It could be rubbing there, but from looking at all the residue on that mower I am really thinking you have a seized pulley or something on the deck.
I would remove the belt and check all the pulleys.

Problem Solved. Dealer came out, picked it up and returned it same day working and clean. Turns out there was not enough tension on the belt.
