I have a Kawasaki FB 460v. It was low on compression only 35lbs. Removal of the head shows that after the intake stroke the exhaust valve partialy opens. The valve will stay open till the piston gets past 2/3 of the stroke. Is this a compression release and is there an adjustment? Thank-You Mikey

First off welcome to LawnSite Mikey...

Yes that is the compression release you see operating, It is not adjustable but by adjusting the valve clearance. Below is the proper valve adjustment procedure.

    Good Luck

Thnak-you very much. I was concerned it might be a spring on the ACS inside block. If this was not such a nice machine I thought of just grinding the vave stem. But if something else was wrong it would have caused worse problems. Again gracious.:gmctruck: :cool2:

Anything is possible, What was the valve clearance ? This is where a cylinder leak-down test is the ultimate test. If the valves and rings checked good and you still had that low compression when spinning over then you would look into the ACR.
