Used Scotts preventative - over the last few years, including this year -- it always makes the grass nice and green for several months - and I'm sure it prevents a lot of weeds from growing -- but every year it never fails my mouseear chickweek grows back - I've had it grow back on one side of my house for over five years -- any suggestions to a better preventative or way to rid of this weed?

2,4-D works great as a post emergent herbicide for chickweed, "IF" you're talking about a bermudagrass lawn. I can't remember the other grasses that fall under the safe zone of 2,4-d, but it would be worth reading a label the next time you're at the lawn/garden store.
