My back up mower has a bit of a problem where at any given point in the day it will not start. You can go out in the morning and fire it up on the first pull but at some point in the day when you take it off the trailer it don't start. However it will start at the next job. The fuel filter does not fill up so at times I think thats the problem, but I put on a new filter and same thing.

its a 48" snapper belt drive walkbehind with a 14 hp kohler

    Thanks
    Mike

unhook the kill wire at the engine when it doesnt start. If it still doesnt start you know you have an engine problem, if it does start you know you have a safety switch acting up

I'm voting ignition coil. Especially on a pull start. When you run the motor for awhile, the coil gets hot, and a faulty one will not put out enough spark if it's too hot. They are fairly cheap on these motors, I've replaced one on a Command also. I think it was like $35 shipped from Tulsa Small Engine Warehouse. GL
