I am not sure why. The mower is a Toro Super Recycler II. Not sure how old it is. There is another mower I have which is smaller than this, and works just fine on the grass. I believe that the grass just gets in where the blade is and stays there when cutting. Any way to prevent this from happening?

I've had the same problem. It has something to do with the blade clutch i think... it was like 300$ to repair. I didn't bother to.

IF it's the old squeeze bar toro instead of the newer personal pace, ( and even not) it could possibly be a adjustment problem with the Blade brake clutch. Does yours shut off the blade if you release the bar just a little?

You might try turning the adjustment knob on the lower left of the mower (surrounding the cable going into the mower) to tighten it up and see if that helps.
