Mowing contracts

    I don't think he's saying $40/month at least I hope not. my yearly contracts start at $180/month for basic service's I think he's saying he's getting 40-60 more per month by being full service. The problem I having is all the capital I'm investing to be full service, it takes a lot of equiptment to be a full service provider especially for fert and spraying

    As for leaf removal. We still go to a property on the regular mowing schedule until the leaves are done or the customer says stop. So we aren't doing a one time clean up like the northern guys.

    Not sure I'd you Charlotte guys do the same but that makes estimating leaf cleanups a little safer.

    Only idiots and hacks do one-time leaf cleanups. Professional companies perform leaf cleanups weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the leaf cover.

    How many weeks of mowing do you figure for in a yearly contract.

    With residentials we do not have contracts other than what we state to them via conversation and email. We're up front with them and tell them we expect them to water their lawn enough so that we can mow on a weekly basis and we charge on a weekly basis.

    Yea I've always done that but I am thinking about an all inclusive yearly package. Mowing, chemicals, landscape bed maint, etc. Just not sure how many mows to figure in.

    I've set us up this way also, It's hard to know how many mows in a year with weather being the restricting factor. I just say we mow weekly during the growing season and wind down over the winter months to a as needed basis, usually Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb.

    In Texas we figure on weekly April- end of Octoberr then biweekly nov,Dec and depending on property once per month in month in Jan and Feb..2/.3 cuts depending on when it turns warm in March...36-38 visits.
    The problem with'as needed 'months is that you either have to drive by and look at the yard or call and ask the client prior to the visit

    This is the only way to do things with maintenance. I was only able to get a few clients to go with this program this year but next year I will be pressing extremely hard to sell existing clients & prospects to sign on full service.
    This way, my company has control over everything and there isn't even the slightest chance that they would consider another company. It is very nice to have the steady income month to month (in mn its march-nov, I don't have anyone for full service on a snow contract yet). It makes clean ups easier in the fall, the shrubs stay looking good as we usually trim 2-3 times per yr depending on what a client has and how much they'd like to pay.
    I like bunton's idea on telling them that you expect them to water enough. Ill do that as well. Including the spring irrigation start up is another thing, you can set up the system to run how you want so the grass will get enough water and it makes it easier to plan fert/weed control.
    My goal by the end of May next year is to have a minimum of 20 full service properties, that would be a solid 2-3 days of maintenance work that covers all my overhead, personal bills, fuel, labor, each week/month. Leaving the remaining days of each week for installs which besides material, equip rental (if needed), addn'l labor, will be all profit which is fun money (ie. motocross racing and savings for new equipment and a house down payment as I'm still living with my parents, I'm 21)
