I love it too. Had a neighbor come up to me last year and he wants to get in the lawn business. Really!!! His lawn is a mess. Cuts it maybe once every few months. He tells me he hates to cut grass but just wants the money. In my mind I said it will never work for you. You have to love what you do in order to excel at it.

The other one people ask me, what do you do in your free time? I always laugh at that one, I'm either at work or at my house working in the yard. My wife hates it "where are you going? Oh you're going to play in the Cat again?!" Why wouldn't I? Kids love to play with toy trucks and equipment and we get to do it for real. Having days when the sun is out and I'm next to the ocean on my mower, how can it get better than that?

I love the fact that you get to put your stamp all over the city knowing that people drive by and mention how good it looks. Did I mention you get to do this all while playing with toys? Ha

I like cutting grass up to a point. A lot of people here at Lawnsite know that I have some physical problems that neither money nor time will fix. I'm good for about 3 lawns by myself and then it starts to get painful on my back and hip. This time of the year is great because I'm down to cutting most lawns every 2 weeks and it allows me to pace myself. When it's like this I love cutting grass.

I'm a bit torn on this subject as I have 4 things I love doing equally.
    -Mowing/general landscape maintenance
-Screenprinting (shirt designing to be specific)
    -Construction
    -Music (writing & recording)

The common aspect I enjoy with these 4 things is being able to admire the finished product(s), and humbly take in all the positive (and sometimes negative) feedback I get from others. Also, it's very therapeutic.

I used to love mowing, now not so much. Some days are very ong as I took on a little too many yards for the time frame I have to do them. In the past I would complete a yard and admire I how nice it looks. Now I just move on to the next one on the schedule. My work is still top notch I simply do not get the enjoyment of looking at a well manicured sidewalk edge or nice stripes. I have one neighborhood where I have 8 yards on one street, I used drive slow on the way out looking at how great the yards I just serviced looked. This year I don't even glance at them. I will be glad when this season is in the books. Unfortunately leaf season is upon us and the end will not be here soon enough.

It is not the mowing that beat me down this year, it is more the other aspects of the business. Here are the things I get physically ill doing, in no particular order.

    1. Sharpening blades and scraping the mower decks.
    2. Billing
    3. Collections
    4. Loading the trailer
    5. Maintanence on equipment
    6. Fueling up at the gas station.

The offseason seems to go by very fast anymore. I am already scheduling landscaping jobs for next year.
