Which one in ya'lls opinion works better for a homemade striping kit, mud flaps or chains? And what is the advantages or disadvantes ya'll have found with each? Thanks for your help!!:)

PVC pipe with some weight in it or then a chain.

they both work goo. I used chains last year and have a flap this year. Just checking them both out. The chains are kinda pricy compared to an old flap from the junk yard.

Truck mudflap, steel, bolts and paint adds up to about $4.00. Works great. An official striping roller (that runs anywhere from $200 - $400) bolts on the rear of the deck and stays a few inches above the turf at all times. My flap runs about 1/4" above the turf and 'folds' the grass over for a more dramatic stiping effect I think. Nothing against the rollers.

Here's my flap. I added some threaded rod in the loop at the bottom for extra weight.
