How do you guys figure prices for re-mulching mulch beds? do you do this by the hour or job? if by the hour, how much??

    Thanks guys,
    Dustin

First, determine the tasks to be performed, i.e. demulching, bed edging, weeding, mulch spreading. Second, determine the best method for the situation and the number of manhours needed X the hourly rate for the labor. Third, add your marked-up materials. I usually figure simple mulching based on the number of cubic yards needed but that is not always accurate since the unloading factors can vary considerably.

Im with Lanelle- i normally estimate how many cu yds of mulch ill need and charge per yard. Edging beds- ive heard 50 cents a foot and weeding ide figure how long it would take and charge by the hour

Simple remulching no weeding, no edging, no frills:

less than 150 ft runs for wheel barrow = $60 per yard installed

150-250 ft runs for wheel barrow = $65 per yard installed

over 250 ft would require min of 10 yards of mulch and would be priced with skid loader rental (or blow in) and operator time

over 250 ft and no ability for blow in or skid loader $50 per hour + materials

For me, edging is becoming an easy up-sell. I keep at the rate I am at and I may get a brown bed edger next year (what a great tool).

I HAVE BEEN USING MY BROWN BED EDGER FOR 2 YEARS AND IT TRULY IS WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD!!!!!! BEFORE MOST OF THE LABOR WAS EDGING, NOW WHAT USED TO TAKE 3 HOURS (1 MAN) HONESTLY TAKES 10 MINUTES! I CHARGE $40.00 HR. IF I TAKE A SECOND MAN I CHARGE $50.00 + MATERIALS. MATERIALS = $15.50 DARK BARK [MY COST]. I CHARGE THEM $20.00. THIS ESTIMATE PROCESS WILL TAKE TIME BECAUSE IF YOU CANT FIGURE THE YARDAGE YOU WILL SCREEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW YOURSELF AND MAKE UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY SEE THE BILL. GOOD LUCK!
