I've started using gator blades on a Scag Tiger Cub....will I get better results with a mulch plate or not really?

No. With just the chute cover it will leave a trail of clippings in a line along the chute side. Either put a full mulch kit on or just discharge.

We keep the mulch plate on all our units including the two cubs year round and it does just fine....but we use Scag mulch blades. With outlets open big risk from flying stuff and loss of efficiency since you have to watch not getting it on sidewalk, beds, people etc. etc.
