I have a customer who is complaining about mold (i think) in her mulch. I looked and found several bright yellow/brown formations in the mulch beds. I went back the next day and found many more had formed. I scratched one of them and it released a dry powder substance. Is this mold? If so, how do I get rid of it? Has anyone had this problem? What do you do? Thanks in advance for the advice.

I've had that problem with hardwood mulches.

They spread and get larger.....start out yellow, then turn brownish-gray.

I just scoop up what's turned bad (usually only about 1 sq ft) and reapply.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

This will happen with most mulches and you can do nothing about it. It will appear when the climate is right for a extened amoount of time. Just scoop it out and it should not come back. It might though. The only thing you can do is get rid of what you see. It is also a fungus i believe.
