name this weed

    this is some type of grassy weed or sedge that is all over a fescue lawn,,,any suggestions on what it is?

    I do see some purple nutsedge in there.... the other stuff I'm not sure. Did you use any straw this spring?

    That looks like a wide bladed fescue variety to me. Where are you located?

    Could you islolate the weed? Pull several out and rephotograph them on white paper. Get a seed pod if at all possible, shake off the root and by all means get as close as possible so the stem and blade formations can be seen. It's almost iimpossible to identify in this photo. Roy

    Sedge will have a triangular stem.

    Not a Sedge. Looks like some sort of fescue to me, maybe coarse fescue? Definitely need a close up.

    Here is another pic.. The weed is all over the yard - about 8 inches tall and the leaf blade is about 1/4 inch.

    No straw was used in his yard, but he did overseed with a "good" fescue last spring.
