Does anybody know of a good underwater fixture for a Par 36. I have to confess I have not looked around at too many different manufacturers for this fixture yet. However, I have never seen one for the Par bulb. Does any body make one?

    Thanks

    Tim,

You might want to consider the LED underwater fixtures offered by Kichler. They are only 5 watts and have a 40,000 hour lamp life.

Thanks for the suggestion but I would use an MR before I would use LED. This fixture will be mounted just slightly out of the water, but the housing needs to be waterproof for the occasional splash of water.
    Thanks

    Tim,

They are designed for underwater use and very compact. The lumen output is equal to a 20W 60 degree MR-16.

    SPJ 13- 36
    focus sl 11
    clarolux portofino
RSL has one too. I really think these all may be the same fixture tho. I notice your SPJ's are falling apart... are they the brass ones ?

I have had reps try to pull the wool over my eyes with LEDs in the past. After I tried them I can assure you they are not even close to the color or output of BAB MR-16. Nice try though.

Billy, Yes those are the thin brass SPJ's. They are falling apart and starting to show corrosian. I don't know if the brass is mixed with some other metal because brass should not be showing corrosian like they are. I have some other pictures that would scare those SPJ reps.

I never been a fan of SPJ... You may want to look at the focus pics close and see if its the same casting. All the underwaters I have used have been MR fixtures.

I just looked and the focus is NOT the same as the spj The spj and claro look strikingly similar tho.

In general the claims of manufacturers regarding color and output have been very bad. I would not ever want to make a claim that I know was not true. I have seen the proformance of the Kichler LED and it is like no other on the market today. I know a contractor that uses them on ever underwater job, because he has found that it performs as stated.

The challenge with any MR-16 or PAR36 fixture in an underwater application regardless of how careful you are when replacing the lamp it never seems to seal properly.

I dont see the led's having enough bang to light these falls as I think tim is intending. I too hear the Kichlers have a very robust color and a desireable output and the future is there in LED's but you cant compare LED mr bulbs to that of the output of a 35w

I was at the Irrigation Association Show in San Diego and saw Kichler's 10 degree, 35 degree and 60 degree fixtures in 4.5W, 8.5W and 12.5W. These are equivalent to the MR-16 20W, 35W and 50W respectively. They are not for underwater, but the performance exceeded the MR-16 in quality of light with the correct color.
