I'm thinking of trying one of the new Husky AWD's. They list for $499 which isn't bad for AWD. They look as durable as anything out there. Most self propelled mowers feel as if they're doing half the work and you're doing the other half. To me, all you should have to do is guide a mower not half push it and I think that should be the case with an AWD. I have a dealer who plans to let me try one out.

Either the Snapper HI VAC series, the Snapper Ninja series, or the Snapper Commercial Push series is what I'd recommend. The other models of push mowers they now make aren't true Snappers. We've got 3 snappers that run (and 1 that has an old Robin engine that doesn't want to run) and 2 of the 3 that run are from the mid 90's. Toro seems to make a good mower too, although my Toro is 23 years old, so I can't really testify on the new ones, but from the ones I've seen in the neighborhood, they look durable.

In the end, Snapper is my first choice.
